"Never bypass a word,
you don't understand."
This is the most important thing that you need to know in order to become a good student. With this "simple yet seemingly insignificant" statement, you can familiarize yourself with any topic and ensure success in any study.
What is it that all books consist of, in addition to paper and ink of course – yes, right – just words and nothing else – so the only thing that can go wrong, is that you do not understand some words, or you have a wrong understanding of one or more words!
Can you see how simple and obvious a theory this really is? But now comes the hard part. You have thoughts, that stop you from doing something about it. A thought such as: "Oh no – everyone I know says that it does not matter." This could easily cause you to give up. But instead you should think: "It might not be important for my 'friends' to understand the words, but it is important for me. I want to understand what I read". We have also been told that we need to think independently and make our own decisions. Will you do that from now on?
If you make the decision that to clear all words, to understand the text as you read, is not for you, then you have laid the foundation for your continuing problems with your studies.
If you make the decision, that this I should try, then you have laid the foundation for your future success in your studies.
1. Look up Words in a good dictionary or find the meaning on the Internet, ask your best friend or family but continue until you know each word and the full meaning.
2. If there is more than one definition of the word, then find the definition that fits and clear that definition fully.
3. If you don't want to clear the rest of the definitions to the word, that you are clearing now, then just continue.
If you want to clear all definitions now, you are of course welcome to do that.
4. Next time you don't understand the word, it is one of the other definitions, that you need to use. Then you clear that other definition.
5. Put the definition in several different sentences until you feel confident that what you're saying is correct. If possible, find a picture or a video clip of the definition.
Once you understand all the words in the sentence, then you have to understand the whole sentence and now you can finally understand what the book's author is telling you.
This is where the work is. The hard work is to clear up the words that you do not fully understand. The hard work doesn’t lies in the number of books you read.
If you are tired of not understanding the books that you study, if you are tired of low grades or stupid comments about your skills, then let the hunt be after words that you do not understand and your success is guaranteed.
Enjoy!
